The Great Music Debate

I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth. I’ve just been busy and haven’t had a lot to say.

I don’t want to just post fluff just to post.

Something I am working on is learning to live like this:

Instead of living as I have for the past few years. Which would be like this:

Besides, I can’t seem to post without a pretty photo. But this post is about music, NOT my issues with needing color and pretty photos surrounding me. 🙂

When reading about blogging, one reads some rather contradictory things.

People talk out of both sides of their mouths.

One minute they are talking about how you should make your blog what YOU want it to be.

It is YOUR blog after all. Isn’t it?

However those same people in the next sentence tell you that you should NEVER have background music.

Huh?

Didn’t you just say, “make it what you want it to be”  that it is “my blog”?

I have read Facebook discussions, blog forums, and comments, even tweets complaining about music on other people’s blogs. How so many people find it offensive and annoying to click on a website and find music playing.

And yet… there are some blogs with huge followings out there that seem to get a pass on having music.

No one complains about their music. Or as I have heard it, “don’t put background music on your blog, unless you are ‘so-and-so’.”

Translation: if I don’t have a million followers it is not okay to have music?

Should I not have music just to gain followers?

How many readers actually go to the website to read a post?

How often do you just read a post in your Google Reader (or other blog reader service) or have your subscriptions sent directly to your email?

Do these readers care if you have music or not? They don’t hear it unless they come over to comment.

And if they won’t come over to comment just because you have music playing… are they really ones you want to hang on to?

If they are that fickle and so easily offended?

Personally, if I don’t care for a blog’s music… I use the mute button on my keyboard. But I don’t unfollow someone just because I do not like their choice of music. It is their blog after all.

I don’t go there for the music, I go there to read what they have to say.

With that being said….

I’ve been looking for peaceful/restful music to accompany my trek here for a long while. But I also wanted to “do it right” and have the artist’s permission to do so, ’cause I really don’t want to be breaking any copyright laws.

I know how I would feel if someone posted my art without my permission.

I was so happy to find that David Nevue would be performing at The Relevant Conference last October. (Which is now Allume Social, check it out! Tickets on sale March 1st!)

Just the man I wanted to meet!!

I also was blessed to meet his sweet wife Julie. She blogs over at Notes from My Nest.

I was delighted to get David’s permission to use his music on my blog.

WooHoo!!

Both of the tracks I have chosen relate to my blog’s premise of hiking toward home.

The first is called “Far From Home,” found on his Postcards from Germany cd. (Found here.)

The second is called “Winter Walk,” found on his Overcome cd. (Found here.)

If you are reading this in a reader, please click over and enjoy the music!
