Lions and Walls

There was a day where I pulled into the parking lot of a school for my kid’s soccer practice and I stated that I felt like I was walking into a lion’s den. Before I stepped foot outside of the van God reminded me that Daniel came out of his lion’s den alive and scratch free. I walked away from that more confident in my God even though there were deep wounds inflicted on my heart.

Today as I sit and type at 4:30 AM, I woke up telling God I feel like I am facing a brick wall. He reminded me that Joshua’s wall fell down flat and God gave victory, and that it was accomplished because they obeyed God and they simply did as he asked them to do.

God keeps reminding me that he is indeed Good. And that HE never forsakes me. He doesn’t lead me to where he will not go with me. That Romans 8:28 was written to remind me that it is all for good in the long run. I just need to be patient and keep going forward until I hit the finish line, putting one foot in front of the other.

The effectual prayers of a righteous man availeth much.

…they obeyed God and they simply did as he asked them to do.

God has asked me to be a godly wife to my husband and mom to my kids and that is all he has really asked me to be. That means far more than just putting food on the table, schooling the kids, and keeping up with the laundry. It also means setting a good example and keeping God in first place.

What has God asked you to do?

Following the Example of Eric Liddell

Eric Liddell is one of my heros. He was a Scottish laddie, who was born in China to missionary parents. He won the Men’s 400 meters at the 1924 Summer Olympics held in Paris.  Much of his life was portrayed in the movie Chariots of Fire. He refused to run on the Lord’s day, Sunday, often referred to as the Christian Sabbath. God honored his sacrifice of not running on Sunday. When he ran the 400, he set a world’s record, and he went home with gold. He used this as a platform to share the gospel of Jesus Christ for several years and then he returned to China and was a missionary until he died at Weihsien Internment Camp.

He refused to run on the Lord’s Day. That day being Sunday. All across our country sports and recreation time have taken over the Lord’s Day. Children are playing in organized sports clubs and people skip out of church because they have tickets to the local/national professional game on the Lord’s Day. Or they have a TV show they must not miss. Sunday has become a day to catch up on housework, beautifying our landscapes, and attend sporting events. People all across this land keep praying for revival and yet where are they on Sunday morning? or Sunday Evening? (Paul was preaching late in the evening when the young man fell out of the window.)

Revival isn’t going to come until Christians get themselves back to God being the first priority in their lives.

Isaiah 58: 13&14 says, “If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.”

God promises blessing to those who keep His day set apart, and call the sabbath a delight, and honourable.

In Adam Clark’s Commentary on the Old Testament, published in 1831, he says, “The meaning of this seems to be, that they should be careful not to take their pleasure on the Sabbath day, …  How vilely is this rule transgressed by the inhabitants of this land! They seem to think that the Sabbath was made only for their recreation!”

Written in 1706, Matthew Henry commented on this section in Isaiah as well, saying, “On sabbath days we must not walk in our own ways (that is, not follow our callings), not find our own pleasure (that is, not follow our sports and recreations)…”

Are your priorities the same as the priorities God has set for you?

Happiness is… GRASS

There she stood on a sea of cement.
Room to run did not exist except for the short run down the side of the house,
but still cement all the same.
Carmel is a much happier dog now. It was worth the headache of moving just to see her this happy.
Can’t you just see her smiling?!
She is lovin’ life and having a great time chasing a ball in the big backyard God has provided.
She has lots of room to stretch her legs now.

Twigs

Looks like a wad of twigs,
but there is more than meets the eye.
Well hidden deep inside…
an amazing variety of items lining the nest.
My son even notice bits and pieces rug from the remnants we have laying on our deck
and silk flower petals blown off of gravestones up the hill.
The precious eggs of a mocking bird.
In an attempt to tame our wildly growing forsythia, a nest was uncovered. When the hack-job trimming was completed, the nest was carefully placed back in the bush, with gloved hands so as not to leave a scent. The bird returned and continued to tend her nest.
Looking forward to watching life break free.

So Proud of THEM for following HIM

This photo brings a lot of joy to my heart. Though it may not be really clear but the structure in the middle under the blue roof, used to look like this:
Now it has cement block walls not bamboo.
They are following God on their own with willing hearts.
No one has to convince them to serve the LORD.
Or convince them that God should be the number one priority in their lives.
HE IS.
They purchased the rest of the 15 feet between the original building and the roadway. And put up another “temporary structure”.
God gets all the glory.
Praising Jesus, for he leads his dear children and never forsakes them.
1 Corinthians 1:4
4I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; 5That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; 6Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: 7So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: 8Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the
fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

3 John 4
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
