She came in first.
Blond hair tumbling down to her waist all messy and tumbled.
Big blue eyes and a wide smile.
How could I say no?
She climbs into my lap and pulls her feet up, knees almost to chest.
She likes to sit curled up in a ball.
We rock.
My arms circling her tiny self that is growing far too quickly taller.
She smells so fresh and clean.
Her forehead and cheeks brushing against my cheek, hers so soft and smooth.
She holds ‘Sophia’ tightly while fingering her ear with the tips of her fingers.
We rock a bit more.
He arrives all tussled and sleepy-eyed.
He’s got and arm-load of stuffed dogs and the three of them all climb into my lap as well.
He takes the other shoulder and my arms now enfold two.
More soft blond hair, soft, smooth cheeks and fresh smelling goodness.
Thankfully, they both fit into my lap, these two who are the best of friends.
He is her prince and protector, who sweetly plays “mommy n daddy” together with her, taking care of babies and “doing chores”.
She looks up to him, big blue eyes wide open, love spilling out of them. He is her hero and her big brother.
They chatter while they snuggle in my lap.
She asks for breakfast and he offers to make it for her.
They climb out leaving my lap empty but my heart so full.
I sit quiet with my heart almost bursting, thanking and praising God for the place He has brought me to.
A mom of four, who at one time never wanted even one.
